The Right Honourable Kim Campbell served at all three levels of Canadian government and was the first female Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, Minister of Justice and later served as Consul General to the US. She was Chair of the Council of Women World Leaders and President of the International Women's Forum. Currently, she is the Secretary General of the Club of Madrid.

| Kim Campbell served as Canada's nineteenth and first female Prime Minister in 1993. She previously held cabinet portfolios as Minister of State for Indian Affairs and Northern Development, Minister of Justice and Attorney General, and Minister of National Defense and Veterans' Affairs. She was the first woman to hold the Justice and Defense portfolios, and the first woman to be Defense Minister of a NATO country. Ms. Campbell participated in major international meetings
including the Commonwealth, NATO, the G-7 Summit and the United Nations General Assembly.
Kim Campbell is a Visiting Professor of Practice at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. In September, 2000, Ms. Campbell completed a four year term as Consul General of Canada in Los Angeles serving the states of California, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, Hawaii and the Territory of Guam. She brought a Canadian perspective on world issues, and promoted trade development and investment especially in the areas of multi-media, information technology, biotechnology and the entertainment industry.
A long-standing champion of women's rights, Ms. Campbell is Chair of the Council of Women World Leaders. Based at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard, the Council's membership consists of women who hold or have held the office of President or Prime Minister in their own country. She is Executive Vice President of the International Women's Forum, a global organization of women of significant and diverse achievement and will assume the presidency of the IWF in 2003.
Ms. Campbell speaks widely on issues relating to international politics and conflict resolution, democratization, international trade, gender, leadership, and Canadian/American relations. She makes frequent appearances on radio and television in North America and abroad. Kim Campbell is a Senior Fellow of The Gorbachev Foundation of North America in Boston. |
