GFNA at Microsoft Government Leaders' Conference 

At the 2002 Government Leaders' Conference held on April 15-17 in Seattle, Washington, GFNA was representd by two of its personnel.

Jose Maria Figueres (Senior Fellow at GFNA) gave a keynote speech on the ways in which information technologies can contribute to the solution of global problems, and gave special attention to the need to implement the objectives of the UN Millenium Declaration on sustainable human development. His address was given via live videocast from Geneva.

Anthony Jones (VP and Executive Director of GFNA) was part of a panel on "Using Technology to Empower Citizens", and talked about the problems of developing E-Government programs in countries that are in transition from authoritarian political regimes. Also on the panel were Steven Clift of Democracies Online; Andrew Pinder, the United Kingdom's E-Envoy; Michel Gentot, President of CNIL, France; and Niklas Nordstrom, Chairman of Sweden's Social Democratic Party IT-Commission.
